Team Clean Honored for its Work at Cheyney University during International Housekeepers Week Appreciation Ceremony

Cheyney, Pennsylvania – September 17, 2010 – Over 30 employees of Team Clean, Philadelphia’s largest independent janitorial services company, were honored for their work on the campus of Cheyney University in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon marking International Housekeepers Week.

Team Clean has provided a full range of janitorial services at all 27 academic, administration and residential buildings on the Cheyney University campus since the beginning of the 2008 academic year. The company has over 32 employees working on two shifts covering more than one million square feet of space at nation’s oldest historically Black institution of higher education.

The ceremony at the Marcus Foster Student Union began with an invocation from Rev. Etta Baldwin, Cheyney’s Director of the Academic Success Center, and remarks from Suzanne D. Phillips, Ed. D., Vice President of Student Affairs & Student Life at Cheyney University.

Donna Allie, Team Clean’s founder and President, gave some informal remarks and thanks to the employees gathered for the presentation.

Stan Cuff, Team Clean’s Resident Manager at Cheyney University, read a proclamation from the County of Chester honoring Team Clean’s employees on the Cheyney campus during International Housekeepers Week, which since 1981 has focused attention and recognition on the professional housekeepers working in facilities such as hospitals, hotels, state facilities, colleges/schools, and many others who maintain a cleaner, safer, healthier environment for us all each and every day.

The County of Chester proclamation, resolved by the Board of Commissioners, recognized “the important and valuable contribution that the school’s Team Clean custodial staff makes to the university’s environmental and academic experience.”

A second proclamation, from the City of Philadelphia and Mayor Michael Nutter, noted that it is “fitting and appropriate that the City of Philadelphia officially recognize with this Tribute to Team Clean Inc. at Cheyney University and urge all citizens to be aware of the many hardworking and dedicated individuals who are responsible for our safety, health and well-being as they maintain the clean and safe environments of our homes, offices and institutions.”

Following the proclamations there was a performance by the Cheyney University's Concert Choir under the direction of their new musical director, Marques Garrett. It was the first public performance by the choir under Garrett’s direction, and was a moving tribute to the men and women of Team Clean who work each day on the Cheyney campus.

Team Clean’s Barbara Williams and Vernon Weeks then presented each Team Clean employee with certificates of achievement, recognizing each employee’s completion of a competency-based technical skills training program encompassing: custodial cleaning procedures, restroom sanitation, educational facility disinfection, and advanced floor/carpet care. Allie and Cuff also congratulated each employee for their achievement.
